Things I Have Learned as a Pre-Kinesiology Major

Psychology

As I gained more knowledge in my major, I found out something fascinating. Many sciences are associated with Kinesiology, Psychology in particular. This gives me the ability to approach Kinesiology in a much more holistic way. I learned that mental state is so important when exercising. Culture can significantly influence what type of lifestyle you live. Past experience can also build one's emotions. Having knowledge in these areas prepare me to work with different people from different cultures and ethnicities.

Chemistry

Usually, when we think of Chemistry, we think of the nuclear bomb, acidity, basicity, when in reality it is more than that. Everything we see, touch, taste is made up of chemicals. Even the air we breath is entirely made up of chemicals. In chemistry, I learned that intaking certain elements can have a variety of different neurological and physical effects. Perhaps a medication a patient takes can release a certain type of neurotransmitter which can cause them to feel, energized, relaxed, numb, etc. There is also certain medications to treat inflammation, which is something many injured patients use. Knowing this will help me become a better physical therapist in the long run. I now know chemicals can take a huge role in physical performance.

Kinesiology

Kinesiology has taught me the different ways we can apply it in our lives. Kinesiology has to do anything with physical activity. Physical activity takes part in everything we do. Whether we are brushing our teeth, carrying groceries, walking, jumping, we are still taking part in physical activity. Through my extensive exploration, I  learned that as people age, they lose the ability to do these things. That is where physical therapists do their job.
